Our Story
Rooted in personal experience
Meet Nakibuule Sarah
The Early Years
Sarah lost her mother when she was just 6 years old. Without her, Sarah and her sister had no support. The girls moved in with their grandmother in a slum near Kampala.

“With fecal sludge on the grounds, and in the drainage systems,” said Sarah, “I fell sick time without number.”

At just ten years old, Sarah almost died from typhoid.

Despite these hardships, the sisters survived, and eventually moved from the slum to Kankobe Children’s Home. At the orphanage, Sarah was sponsored by Jangu Tusome, a facet of the Social Innovation Academy (SINA) which pays for young people to stay in school.
With their support, Sarah was able to complete her studies and earn a B.A. in Business Administration.

Upon graduating, Sarah moved to Jangu International, a SINA community where scholars are encouraged to develop social enterprises that address real world challenges.
The Birth of a New Enterprise
In February, 2023 SwiftSan Hygienic Solutions was born. Motivated by her own childhood experiences, Sarah’s goal is to address issues of human waste disposal in slums and households across Uganda.

Thanks to Sarah’s hardwork and dedication and the support of SINA and HerStart, SwiftSan Hygienic Solutions has grown and prospered. Sarah now employs three single mothers full time in production and distribution.
Together, they have served over 160 households, and have established partnerships with six schools. At the schools they provide the sludge decomposer on an ongoing basis, and offer education training on the importance of proper waste disposal and sanitation.
Team
Sarah has hired a team of dedicated young professionals and single mothers, thereby enhancing the impact of SwiftSan to support more people in her community.
